Acrylic paints on antique denim canvas. Repurposed denim from mill factories of Columbus, Georgia River mills. Oil paint sticks and oil pastels are used as well. Winter circa 2021, Atlanta, Georgia. I created Beside The Point in tangent with the In Between collection.
Finally, I felt as if I had stumbled upon an artistic style that was a signature all my own.
The optical illusory effect of the large-scale series of work continued the iteration of my life’s narrative.
Inspired by my dreams and the stark contrast of repetition in reality.
I felt as if ironically using boxes to create dreamy portals to other worlds, because I felt boxed in literally, allowed me to transmute the negative feelings into the art. Thus, resurrecting what I felt to be “bad” feelings, into positive life reinforcement, in the form of artistic expression.
Winters have always been hard on me and my family’s cyclical energetic patterns.
These paintings got me through another predicted dark period of my life and provided an artistic aesthetic that looked and felt all my own while dealing with mental issues of depersonalization at the time.
I was learning through application that the larger the work I was able to create, the larger the window, and therefore, the larger the world I was able to create for myself to not only get lost in, but found in, as well.
