Stay
Stay. A flashcard circa the 1930s from a stack I acquired at a flea market in Alabama from a second-grade teacher of the times. An old master Lock, cut paper oil paint sticks, Songs for service clipped from a 1900's hymn book. A snippet from an old Webster dictionary, an antique "Advance to go" playing card from a 1940s Monopoly board game. An edge of a gold metal frame I found in the woods while playing disc golf, a ring of mysterious antiquated keys, a glass panel, and a mini canvas can be seen fixed atop a Norman Rockwell-inspired paint by number.
What does this painting tell you? What does it want? Every time I analyze this it I have fun little "eureka" moments of narrative potentialities I've never seen before. The paintings in this collection truly feel alive.
